Q: Is Athletic Therapy covered by my insurance provider?

A: Many extended health plans cover Athletic Therapy treatments. As all plans are different, please check with your insurance provider and/or policy to see if you have coverage.

Q: What can I do if my plan does not cover Athletic Therapy?

A: If your insurance company denies your claim, you can submit a letter requesting that Athletic Therapy be added to your extended health care plan.

A letter (www.athletictherapy.org/insurance_billing.aspx) has been prepared by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association for this purpose. You can submit one to your plan administrator in the HR department of your workplace and to your insurance provider.

Q: Is Athletic Therapy a new profession?

A: Athletic Therapy has been in practice since at least 1965, when the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) (www.athletictherapy.org) was established. It was initially mostly used on high performance athletes, and has over the years been practiced among non-athletes as well with great success.

Since its inception, CATA has been dedicated to the promotion and delivery of the highest quality care to active individuals through injury prevention, emergency services and rehabilitative techniques.
